Welcome to Mike's Class

What time is it?

This web page will be was used to share information from my classes to anyone interested. It is was also part of my secret plan to save the environment (by not wasting paper) and change the world (by hopefully changing how people think, teach and work just a little bit).

Here is a link to my blog

which hopefully has some things of interest for English teachers (Korean and otherwise)]

This page, like my favorite site, wikipedia, is a wiki. This means that you can edit any page that you would like.

If you are lucky enough to find a typo please fix it for me!

Here are some examples of wikis used for EFL.

There are some really interesting videos on youtube.com.

Here are some videos about American kindergarten-12 students in the 21st century and a similiar one about university students.

English corrections and comments from Mike

Interesting stuff

Nice one ! I think the picture is a peanut butter sandwich. There is a place to make a profile and you can upload a (lizard) picture.

Hi, Mike.( one syllable ^^) How have you been doing?
After a very long time, I joined this.
I was impresseed by your ethusiam of the class.
After reading your journal, I understand your agony the same as mine and your intention in the class that I wasn't aware of.

After three weeks of the English training program have ended, I don't know What I should do starting.
I wanted the program to keep going. (May be you don't. ^ ^)
I already miss everything the program such as my classmates, teachers, the mood and so on.
Take care. Bye.

Hi Mike (and Kevin),

You said you needed feedback so here it is.
The last week has been great. I've been learning a lot, and from what I've heard so have the others.
Also it's been a lot of fun, too.
Anyway, I've already got a couple of good ideas but it would be great if you could introduce some more 'first-day-of-class' activities. If there's not enough time for that, that's fine.
I'm amazed at how you and Kevin are so good at organinzing your classes. Thanks. Well, see you tomorrow!

Hi Mike,
I am just looking around this site. Quite interesting with lots of materials and information!
The fact that I can also edit is totally new to me, which is somewhat scary also. What if I would delete your valuable material? you know how clumsy I am....
I really enjoyed your brother's photo and his love story. At first I took him for you.^^ As an ex- assistant, I am so sorry that there is no alternative but to say you are better- looking, though. Ha-ha!
Besides I am pleased to find his name "Matt" is the same as My son's English name. He is also Matt. Take care !!

Michael Griffin said

at 10:02 pm on Jan 17, 2010

Hello Jinny!
Thanks for the comments. I will be sure to pass on your thoughts to my brother.
Matt is a good choice for an English name, I think.

Any time anyone edits the page I receive a message. If I wanted to return back to the original status I am able to do that. So, please feel free to edit as much as you would like.

Take care and see you soon,
Mike

Hello Mike! I'm SARAH. It's been quite long and I'm not sure if you could remember me or not. A previous trainee in 2009 Summer ESL program.
How're you doing? I hope you're great as I saw you last summer.

Now, sadly I'm in KNUE for participating 6-month intensive training program. Why I'm saying "SADLY" is that after I came here I regreted a lot not to apply for the program in UC CDP. Because I liked and enjoyed so much in summer course and I expected two of 6-month program here and UC CDP would be same. But actually not. The curriculum of KNUE is very different from UC CDP one and it's more focused on English things, not teaching. Most of things I study here is not related with teaching. That made me miss your programm a lot and actually I visited here several times. Finally I'm making a comment. ^^

ANYWAY, now I'm much more adapted and feel better. I'm following my way besides KNUE program. These days, you're my English teaching GURU and you're helping me a lot. I'm reading the book "Group Dynamics in the Language Classroom" recently. I haven't read it to the end yet, I think I can't miss even a paragraph, thank YOU.

With best wishes,
Sarah

Oh, one more. I have another English nickname, JOANNE. Just because. :-)

Sarah! Joanne!

Thanks for your lovely comments.I was very happy to read what you wrote. I found what you wrote about English/teaching to be very interesting.

I remember you well! (of course). I am actually working at the UCC center at the moment. It is really too bad that you didn't come. :(.
I am sure that I am learning a lot and I am also sure that it is good for the course participants as well. Actually, your former classmate, "Sue" is here. It is nice to see her smiling face every day.

It is great that you are making the most out of your time there. I am sure that you can make it a successful time.

Thanks again for the comments and please keep in touch!

All the best,
Mike

PS-I am so happy to read that you are following my recommendation and reading "Group Dynamics in the Language Classroom." It is awesome, isn't it?

If anyone has time this coming Sat I will be presenting in Daegu.
The topic is about relating training courses to real teaching situations
(a familiar one I am sure)
It would be great to see you.

I hope this finds you well. I have talked to a few Korean teachers lately and many of them were not aware that the KOTESOL International Conference is coming up. I think it is a really good chance for professional development and would encourage you to come if you have a chance. You can find out more information about the conference here:

http://www.kotesol.org/IC2011Event

and here:
http://koreatesol.org/IC2011Presentations

I will actually take part in a panel discussion about teacher training in Korea which may or may not be interesting. :)

Take care and perhaps see you next weekend!
